Description
Discussion of Utah Northern Railroad, a narrow-gauge line which connected with Promontory Line and extended into Ogden on a separate grade. Ground broken for Utah Northern in 1870. It was used for freighting primarily to Montana and for passenger travel. It ran over Collinston Summit and to Logan, Utah. The Oregon Short Line went through the Bear River Gorge and back to Cache Junction. Interview includes Jensen's memories of the Brigham City Depot as a busy hub with waiting passengers, a telegraph operator, and railway post office. Hobos came on freight trains, camped west of depot, often went into town asking for food.
