Description
Ray Balls was drafted into the US Army in 1968 during the Vietnam War. He spent 10 and a half months in South Vietnam in an artillery unit. He was assigned to a fire support base, which had infantry and artillery soldiers atached to it. As the infantry went out on patrols, the artillery unit provided fire support for them. In subsequent years, Ray has become more of a pacifist and feels that citizens have a right to disagree with military decisions. Although many Americans think the military presence in Vietnam was not justified, he felt that for himself when he was called to serve his country, he was duty-bound to do so.
