Description
Missionary journal by A. H. Young. Started June 22, 1898. The last entry is May 14, 1900. Cities mentioned are all in Tennessee -Flags Pond (March 1899), Rice Creeck (April 1899), Necessity June 1899), Chattanooga (March 1899) Jockey, Johnson City,  Rheatown, Chuckey, Greenville, Morristown, etc. Young includes religious notes. He also has quoted and written poetry and lyrics. He has the words to "Oh My Mother" (page 75)(earlier rendition of the song "Oh, My Father"?). There is a touching poem entitled "I Have no Mother" on page 30.  He appears to be copying letters from the mission leaders, as well. Young lists some of the people they visited and who he worked with, including faith promoting stories. The first part of the journal has the lyrics and poems, letters, and sermons. The last part is a traditional journal. The journal has a soft red leather cover with a gold embossed medallion in the middle with the word RECORD printed in the center.

Loose in the journal are two additional items: A letter signed W.E.B. with small cursive text written in ink (different than journal writing); also a photograph cut from what appears to have been a magazine. Beneath the photo is the following information: the M. I. A. Male Choir (300 Voice) - Salt Lake City - Organized January 20, 1899; E. Stephens, Director.
