Description
George Stokes got a tick bite or some other unsanitary condition from sagebrush while visiting the promontory site.  He then sent an annoyed letter to John A. Carver, assistant secretary to the Interior, and to Governor George Dewey Clyde.

In response, Bernice Gibbs Anderson explains what the situation is and how well they have kept up the site without federal help.  She mentions that "If Mr. Stokes or anyone else, feels oblidged to hunt a sagebrush while he is at Promontory Summit, we refuse to accept responsibility!"
