Description
19th century pair of womens' boots. Black leather with ten buttons. Interior lining is a brown silky fabric on top inch, ribbed cotton below. Inside label indicates the shoes were made by Laird, Schober, & Mitchell, of Philadelphia. The company was dissolved in 1894 when Mitchell retired. Shoes by this maker were sold at outlets around the country. A similar shoe can be seen in an advertisement held in the collections of the University of Washington. Soles are leather witha wooden heel.
