Description
John Elwell graduated from high school in 1944 and enlisted in the Navy in September of that year. He served as a Motor Machinist Mate, which was basically a diesel mechanic, on the ship USS St. Paul. Except for leaves on Pacific islands and in Tokyo and Shanghai, he spent his time aboard the ship. After his discharge, he went to college on the GI Bill and eventually made his home in Brigham City, Utah and worked at Thiokol.
