Description
Alan Trout was hired to manage the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge after flooding from the Great Salt Lake had destroyed all dikes, building, offices, shops that comprised the Refuge. With the help of local volunteers, the dikes were rebuilt and were able to impound water, and the 12-mile auto tour was restored by 1990. In 2006 an $11 million Education Center was completed and is operated by a staff of 12 and many volunteers. Alan's wife Kathy Trout became Executive Director of the Box Elder Family Support Center. She was instrumental in moving the Center to a larger facility in Brigham City offering more and better services to families in crisis. Alan and Kathy Trout retired from their respective agencies in 2006.
