Description
"Pioneers: Water Scene" by Minerva Teichert is a large horizontal oil painting on linen canvas done in 1936. The signature and date are in the lower right of the canvas. Teichert used thin washes of paint and overlaid with thicker paint. All layers of paint show through from the charcoal sketch to the thicker paint layers. The scene depicts 16 handcart pioneers in front of a clear body of water drinking out of cups or gathering water to drink. There are men, women, children and babies in the scene. Their images are reflected in the water below them. Colors are browns and earth tones, yellows, blues. lavendars, pinks, and greens.
